"Runes" is the collective term
for a number of ancient Germanic alphabets used from the 3rd
to 13th centuries for writing, divination and magic.
Their use was widespread throughout most of
northern Europe including Scandinavia and the British isles,
with inscriptions also being identified in North America.
In these times, writing was regarded as a very serious matter
and closely associated with spiritual or magical powers. Runes
were used to cast spells, in which the writing of the runes
was accompanied by prayer or chanting and other pagain rites.
The mystical aspect of runes is to function
as an oracle which can be consulted to obtain advice on certain
issues. It is necessary to carefully identify your particular
circumstances before asking a specific question, however many
rune readings will still be obscure, hinting toward answers,
but requiring individual interpretation.
Like many other forms of divination, the skill,
experience and intuition of the reader therefore becomes critical.
It is possible for runes to "speak" their meaning
loud and clear to a talented reader, whilst conveying mixed
or confusing messages to a less experienced person.
Runic divination (also know as "rune casting")
does not provide a glimpse into the future as such, but provide
the ability to examine your current life-direction and determine
the probable outcome of this.
It is important to remember that the future
is not fixed, and that you can control your destiny with every
action you take, every day. Runes can help you decide what
actions to take, then you can look at the results of your
decisions...
